LAIKIPIA

Sprawling on the edge of the Northern Kenyan Frontier, stretching from the slopes of Mount Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley, is the Laikipia Plateau. A natural haven made up of ranches and conservancies, over time conservationists have made an effort to create a place for communities and wildlife to exist hand in hand to maintain and protect biodiversity in the region.

Vast open plains in the shadow of the snow-capped silhouette of Mount Kenya create a tranquil and secluded setting, where game drives encounter wildlife including endangered species such as black rhino, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and wild dogs with few other vehicles in sight.

An important wildlife area scattered with a mosaic of farms and cattle ranches, conservationists and ranchers alike have worked together in this wildlife refuge that supports large numbers of game. Steeped in history from the colonial days in Kenya, this is a significant natural area from a safari and conservation perspective.

There are a variety of ranches and conservancies that can be visited depending on one’s interest. From wildlife areas, such as Lewa Downs and Borana, a protective haven for the endangered black rhino; to ranches and conservancies further north more focused on community and adventure activities such as horseback riding, camel and walking safaris. It is also a perfect base to explore the wilder north and great lakes of Kenya.

LODO SPRINGS LOISABA

Located within Loisaba Conservancy, Elewana Loisaba Lodo Springs offers an ultra-private experience with eight individual, spacious tented rooms with impressive views that reach across the magical landscape of northern Kenya stretching out to Mount Kenya.

Service is paramount, with each room assigned an Elewana Guest Ambassador to serve and cater to guests’ every need, as well as a dedicated safari vehicle and a highly qualified Elewana field guide who will accompany guests for the duration of their stay.

Loisaba sits on a vital Elephant Corridor connecting the famous Laikipia Plateau and plays a key role in supporting one of Kenya’s largest and most stable lion populations. LOISABA TENTED CAMP

Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Loisaba Tented Camp is designed to take advantage of unhindered views across the Laikipia Plateau’s breath-taking landscape, all the way to the peaks of Mount Kenya. The theme of the camp is one of African elegance and style, enhanced by an expansive panorama, which can be enjoyed from the large open dining area, the relaxing sitting area and bar, the tranquil wooden deck, and one of Africa’s most picturesque infinity pools.

The nine spacious and airy tents are custom-designed with large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows, polished wood floors, chic African furnishings and wide verandas from which to enjoy the endless views. While the luxurious ensuite bathrooms provide flush toilets, double-basin vanities and solar-heated hot water, which cascades from rainfall showers to deliver a revitalizing cleanse after an adventurous day.
