Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, the Amboseli National Parks is one of Kenya’s most popular parks. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”, and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the savannah and woodlands. They can also visit the local Maasai community who live around the park and experience their authentic culture.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>

Ol Tukai Lodge<\/strong> has one of the best spots in Amboseli, backed by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa\u2019s highest peak, and surrounded by open plains in some of the finest elephant-watching country in the world.<\/h3>\n

Monkeys and baboons roam the grounds, and the dining room and garden terrace are just metres from the elephants, zebra and antelope that stalk the boundary. The two-storey open-air Elephant Bar is an excellent spot for cocktails; head to the upper deck level to soak up the views of the marshlands and Kilimanjaro. The lodge also has an extensive African art collection dotted throughout, and a walkway leads to a large pool surrounded by sun loungers.<\/h3>\n<\/div>

Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, Amboseli Sopa Lodge<\/strong> nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand meters, is Africa\u2019s highest and most famous snow capped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930\u2019s, inspired Ernest Hemingway\u2019s unforgettable stories \u2018The Snows of Kilimanjaro\u2019 and \u2018The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber\u2019 which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940\u2019s due to their renowned actors.<\/h3>\n

All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.<\/h3>\n<\/div>

Elerai Camp<\/strong> is located in a quiet, unspoiled, unique setting on a 5000 acre private conservation area 12 kms south east of Amboseli National Park at the foot of Africa\u2019s Largest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. The camp looks down onto the Amboseli National Park in one direction and up to Mt Kilimanjaro in the other direction, giving clients what is arguably the best location of any camp in Amboseli.<\/h3>\n

The camp currently has 12 luxury en suite mountain facing tents and 5 large luxurious lodge style suites. Both the tents and the suites are en suite with the suites also having luxurious baths. The facilities are supplied with hot running water provided by Eco-friendly solar units.<\/h3>\n<\/div>

TORTILIS CAMP<\/h1>\n<\/div>

Tortilis Camp<\/strong> was designed and built by Stefano Cheli in 1993, the first \u201cEco-lodge\u201d in Kenya, it won the coveted Tourism for Tomorrow award. The Cheli\u2019s were invited to build a small tented camp on the site by the Masai community. The site had been earmarked for a 200 bed lodge and Kenya Wildlife Service (under the direction of Dr. Richard Leakey at the time), insisted the project was scaled down to a more Eco-friendly size and design.<\/h3>\n

Tortilis joined the Elewana Collection in 2015, a group of 16 boutique lodges and camps in some of the most iconic sites in Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar, and Stefano and Liz Cheli continue to participate in conservation work, guiding and lodge experience (including the food!) at Tortilis Camp.<\/h3>\n<\/div>
